Planning for the next five years seemed like a huge feat but after some reflection I have a plan!
Since becoming a Paramedic in 2012 I decided to let go of teaching and focus on my new career. It was a tough choice but I didn't have the band width to fit it all in. Seeing as I've been out of the game for a while I think I would benefit by shadow teaching and auditing some classes just so I can get back into the swing of things. As this class ends I will actively pursue some opportunities with the Ambulance Service as well as through the local paramedic academy's. My goal is to be in the classroom within the next 3 months.
My next goal is to continue my studies in Paramedicine. I am interested in becoming more proficient and knowledgeable in foundational material such as Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology and ECG interpretation. Within the next 3 months I will research different distance learning opportunities surrounding these topics. My goal is to take one university level course in 2024 and a second in 2025.
My third goal is to become involved in the Ambulance Service onboarding. These sessions are 2 weeks long. New employees from around the province convene in Vancouver and are taught the fundamentals of their new role within the service. My goal is to be involved in the process by the end of 2023.
4. To teach continuing education courses through the ambulance service at least once per month. I intend on completing this by the end of 2023 as well. I am waiting for the new educators onboarding training to happen. After this I will be eligible to teach.
Finally, my last goal is the furthest away. I would like to seek out a more managerial role within the education department. This is my 5 year + goal. By completing my other goals I am certain they they will lead my in this direction.
